Some time back I started to spin some yarn for my sister. It is actually the combings from her little pomeranian dog, Mishkah. Well, at last it's finished. Yes I know I'm slow, but I have so many things on the go at the one time that some things take longer to finish than others. Lack of discipline, that's what that is. Anyway, here it is. I'm quite pleased with it and I think my sister will be too. Little Mishkah is such a tiny little thing that it's going to take a lot more combing before there is enough to make anything larger than a hat or scarf. As it is I suspect there is a little of my neice's dog Hershe (chocolate coloured of course) in there too. I think a vest would be nice. It has come out at about the equivalent of about 8 ply but should be knitted on larger size than usual needles as the yarn is quite fluffy, though not as fluffy as the samoyed.
Looking forward to seeing what is made from the yarn.
The man of the house has just made a cuppa tea - that happens a lot at our house - so I'm off to enjoy it. Hope you're all having a great Christmas or whatever belief you follow at this time of year. Bye for now until next time. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Kate. Spinning dog combings requires a little more concentration than sheep fleece but otherwise its just the same. Yes I had a lovely day as I hope you did.
ReplyDeleteI never new that was possible to spin dogs hair, but what a brillant idea.I have combed enough to fill a semi trailer from my 5 dogs over the years.My dog zoeby and sheeba are 11 now,golden retreivers, and what delight it would be to have a jumper from their coats. When our pets pass,I go to ruin, and would just please me so much to feel that close to them, from keeping me warm ,or snuggling their fur when Im missing them. I believe that would be the best business if you started a group, to spin the hair from everyones pets. I bet that would take off so much and you would be a millonaire in a couple of years. I know I would pay 500 dollars for a knitted scarf or jumper from my darlins.Well now, you could definatley put me down as your first customer for sure!. How many plastic supermarket bags would it take to be able to knit one jumper? Brilliant, brilliant idea, I love it
ReplyDeleteDonz I've never made anything larger than a scarf although I have made several of those. I imagine it would take the same weight as mohair. Also, the best hair to spin is that which comes from a double coated dog (less itch factor) but I'm willing to have a go at anything. As for becoming rich, I'm much too lazy. lol. :)

ReplyDeleteYes Sis, your sister is very pleased with the yarn. I'll have to wait before knitting anything with it untill I have some more brushings to go with it. Mishka has been clipped for summer and I don't get much fur at the moment.
