Another find in my stash

Do you have a stash of craft books? I tend to hang on to them the way I do odd balls of yarn. I really love the old ones that are no longer in print. This one is probably about 60 years old and isn't it wonderful? Madame Weigel put out all sorts of crafty books as well as paper patterns for clothing. Mum used to use them all the time when I was little. My siblings and I grew up wearing Madame Weigel designs. The price of 8d. on the cover would have bought a couple of pounds of sausage mince in the 1930's.
I love the illustrations, just sketches of what the item to be made would look like - no photos. Aren't we spoiled with today's lovely glossy publications.
I remember Nana making a few of the items in this book but I've never tried any of them myself. That's about to change. I intend to have a go at the afghan rug pictured here as I'm interested to see how that rose centre turns out. If you click on the picture you may find that you can read those instructions, if you care to.
Must go now as it's newsletter time again and I've sneaked some time out to say hello to you. Hope your day is a good one. Bye for now until next time.

  2. Hello Pat. I remember my sorrow as Nana cut a little doll in half with a saw in order to make her fit the tea cosy. I'm not exactly scarred, but I've never forgotten it. Lol. :)

  3. According to my mom I am a hoarder of pattern books. She says I have more than any store around. Thats not saying much as pattern books and thread seem to be getting harder and harder to find. I just found your blog. Glad I did..

  4. Pleased to meet you Vikki. It seems we crafters share the hoarding habit. I'm glad we do otherwise a lot of lovely patterns would disappear.

  5. Oh, how wonderful! I have an old stack of Workbasket magazines from the 1940s and 50s that belonged to my grandmother. If I'm at a flea market or antique show, I'm always scouting out old pattern books and magazines. I may not ever make anything in them, but they're sure fun to look at!

  7. Me too, Laurie I love just looking at them and I tell myself I'm saving them for posterity - well that's my excuse anyway.

Minding my own, I like the tea cosies too, though we don't use a tea pot these days, so they're just nice to look at now.

Welcome, Gina. Yes I do like to make dolls though not in a big way. Just for fun.
